Our friend Chris (who helped us build this website, along with doing so many other cool things for us) has a fantastic music blog called Sleeping Village. All the posts this month are of bands that are playing Fest, in the order that they’re playing over the weekend.
SO – if you’re going, you should definitely compare your schedule to his, since you might miss something really rad. If you’re not going, listen anyway to learn about some new bands that you would probably otherwise never be exposed to!

SO…this Saturday marks our 3rd FES2VAL – a one day festival celebrating the 2-piece band. We’ve always had a huge appreciation for bands with only 2 members, and started this festival in 2008 as a way to showcase the depth, versatility and heart that 2-piece acts possess.

The first two years were on the Blue Bridge and Gillette Bridge (respectively), but after some complaints from Plaza Towers residents the first year, and serious rain issues last year, we opted for a place with a better rain contingency plan than just a couple 10×10 tents. Therefore, we are proud to be lined up with Wealthy Theatre (1130 Wealthy SE, GR, MI) who has been gracious enough to allow us to use their parking lot (or the gorgeous interior space in case of rain) as our festing place!

Fes2val is all ages, $5 in advance (buy tickets online HERE) or $6 at the door, there will be beer (for those of age) & food for sale onsite – the Theatre got us a 1-day permit to sell alcohol in the parking lot without a Community Media Center membership! And, most importantly, there will be 14 bands on 2 stages, rocking all day. The show will open at 12noon and we’ll wrap up around 9pm.

We’re also having our official after party at the Pyramid Scheme, as our old friends in Still Remains reunite for their first show in years. They’ll be joined by other amazing friends of ours in Ozenza, Shores, and Brothers. Click Here for the Facebook Event Page.

A special thanks to West Side Beer Distributing, Revue Magazine, The Pyramid Scheme, The Meanwhile, Vertigo Music, and of course Wealthy Theatre for making this all possible.

Official Schedule of Bands:
1pm – Bram N Dexous
1:30pm – Boy With Mace
2pm – Back Alley Knife Show

The time has come to change the Grand Rapids music scene. Within the past couple of years, we’ve seen a surge of fantastic bands pop up, relationships between bands becoming stronger, the reputation of our town improving among those touring through, but we were still missing that one piece – a venue that would host a mid-level band, one that would not fit in Jukes or Mulligans, but whose crowd would look tiny inside the Intersection. A venue that is built for music, not a bar converted to a venue. A venue that will diminish the need to drive to Chicago or Detroit to see our favorite bands. And last night, such a place opened.

The Pyramid Scheme, for those that don’t know, is a venue created by Friction Records’ owner Jeff VandenBerg, his sister Tami, and Mark Sellers (owner of HopCat, Stella’s and Viceroy), and we have the pleasure this evening of being the first band to play the stage. The bar holds 200, and the back venue holds 400, and already there is an impressive list of bands coming through, including Kylesa, Torche, Big Business, Raekwon, Afrika Bambaataa, and The Life And Times. We can’t wait to see what the future holds, and we’re excited to be a part of such a great project.

Tonight: Charles the Osprey (also feat. members of Noblesville and Ghost Heart) and Chance Jones – 9pm / 21+ / $5
5/21: Charles the Osprey, Ozenza, We Are Hex and Man At Arms – 9pm / 21+ / $5
7/23: The Life and Times, Charles the Osprey, TBA – Details also TBA
